Innocents
In the monsoon season of the 1980s, eleven year old Syafiqah enters yet another harsh institution. On the verge of maturity, she struggles to find her fit in society but instead discovers a friendship with an ostracized boy. Misunderstood and bullied, they escape from a world framed by discipline and neglect, to carve out a private life of fantasy and freedom. As Syafiqah fights to protect the fragile world they have created, the rains intensify and a vow of secrecy forces her to embark on a quest for independence well beyond her years.A vow of secrecy quickly leads to a rash of poorly constructed choices. As Syafiqah asserts her independence to protect the fragile world they have created, she finds that her decisions are not quite so straightforward, resulting in consequences far beyond her expectations. As she attempts to balance the need for loyalty with a pragmatic acceptance of reality, she finds herself on a bittersweet path towards adulthood, where the most difficult journey is the search for something that has been lost.
