In our annual "See the Future!" concert series, we showcase emerging artists from across North America who are paving the way toward a bright future for independent music. Underwritten by the New York State Council on the Arts, the tickets are a bargain for an intimate night of musical discovery. This is the first concert in the five-part series that runs through early October. Tonight we bring together two playful young bands with superb musicianship.
VT Joy Parade is a collection of some of the greatest talents from the vibrant Burlington, VT music scene. They've been praised from coast to coast for their exciting "suspender-fusion" music. They use a smorgasbord of instruments to perform a fervent blend of old-time, blues, dixieland, cajun, jug, and klezmer. Their alchemical blend of alternately rambunctious and soulful tunes have been received with enthusiasm by people from all walks of life in all regions of America.
Celebrated Boston musician Laura Cortese wields a fiddle like a rocker slings a guitar, and sings with even more swagger (you've seen her on our stage with Session Americana). Widely held to be one of the most intriguing and versatile musicians in the bountiful New England folk scene, Laura marries the propulsive grace of ancient fiddle styles with open-hearted original pop songs. Recently, her trio was selected for the US State Department's American Music Abroad program. This winter they will embark on a month long tour overseas.
