West Hollywood, 1941. The last remaining performer of the Pansy Craze holds court at a nightclub frequented by Hollywood stars, celebrating the great drag performer Julian Eltinge. A tribute to the oft-forgotten crusaders of the gay underground cabaret movement of the 1930s, Pansy is a story about singing out when the world demands your silence. Pansy is written and performed by Max Wojtanowicz, with Bradley Beahen at the piano. The piece was devised by Nikki Swoboda and Max Wojtanowicz, with music and additional lyrics by Michael Gruber, and had its world premiere reading last summer at Theater Latté Da's NEXT Festival.
