Thurs, Oct 17, 5:30 - 8 p.m., $20 ($15 for AIA and Museum members) The California Museum, 1020 O Street, Sacramento Sponsored by: The California Museum, Miles Treaster & Associates & HOT ITALIAN Celebrate the centennial of Sacramento native designer Ray Eames in a special evening featuring a unique presentation of films from the archives of the Eames Office. Presentation hosted by Llisa Demetrios, granddaughter of Ray Eames and Archivist of Eames Office. The evening also includes a Q&A with Llisa, refreshments by HOT ITALIAN and a tour of The California Museum's exhibit, "Ray Eames: A Century of Modern Design." Co-created with Eames Office, the exhibit is the first to explore Ray's early life and lesser-known work produced prior to meeting Charles in 1941. Including over 100 original works created by Charles and Ray as well as rarely-seen artifacts created from Eames Office and the Eames family's collections, the exhibit provides new insight on Ray's ground-breaking role as Charles' equal partner who broke barriers during an era of limited professional opportunities for women in the arts.
About the Festival:
The central theme around the Central Valley Architecture Festival is an exploration of the identity of our region; the relationship of architecture and design to our culture, landscape, climate and history.
The festival mission is three-fold:
1. Highlight existing relationships between the region and its architecture.
2. Create an ongoing dialogue to inform a distinct, regional, architectural identity.
3. Facilitate greater transparency with the public in how architects create our built environment and how it impacts their daily lives.
Festival Dates: October 10th to October 19th, 2013 Location: Varies by event
Founded in 1942 the American Institute of Architects, Central Valley Chapter, represents the interests of the architectural profession in 17 Central Valley counties.
