In 2004 (the same year as the invention of podcasting!) the Icebox Radio Theater was founded to explore the world of audio theater in all its forms. From radio's golden age to the modern era of rich soundscapes, the IBRT has done it all based out of a surprisingly artsy village up on the Canadian border.
Starting with a series of home-grown mystery and adventure stories focused on life in the Borderland, the IBRT has produced over 300 radio plays in a variety of genres in a variety of styles. They regularly perform live shows in the local community center, at the county fair and as part of 'Concerts in the Park' series each summer. When not on stage, the artists of the IBRT are in the studio producing monthly podcasts which beam out on the internet to an audience of thousands.
'The Fall of the House of Usher' encapsulates the IBRT's approach to new radio theater. The story is familiar and the script adaptation is very faithful to the original. But the presentation will be unlike anything you've seen before. Rockslides realized on stage mixed with synth pads and the eerie tones of a 'disassembled piano' combine to create a completely unique aural experience. This is not just radio drama for the sake of nostalgia, this is radio drama as ART!
