Produced by the Rimon Artist Salon Series
Truth is produced in conversations. That is, truth is in flux: it depends on who is speaking to whom. Kitchen conversations, bar intimations, classroom debates, panel discussions, artist talks - those are just modes of the production of truth. The significance of any particular subject is not a given: we talk to each other to find out what is important to us.
In Judaism, a conversation is a form of study and legislation. The Jewish law is historically accompanied by sheelot ve tshuvot, questions and answers, or responsa, wherein rabbis reply to questions, on subjects ranging from mundane to theological.
Respons-a! is a performative panel discussion about exactly that. By shifting modes of conversation we want to find out what are those questions that we care about in our professional and private personas, and what answers we can offer on the spot. It is a game set at ease with food and drink. How much at ease? Well find out in process.
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
