Concerned as much with the internal world as with the external, Jean Rohe writes one-of-a-kind narrative songs. Her songs, which range from fantastical riffs on old folktales to autobiographical sojourns, to phonojournalism, a genre of her own invention, have won recognition from the ASCAP Foundation and the New York Songwriters Circle. She can be found fronting her large ensemble, collaborating as one half of the duo Robinson & Rohe, or playing intimate solo sets in the US and abroad. Rohe's latest record as a bandleader, Sisterly, produced by longtime collaborator Liam Robinson, is a collection of songs about communication and missed connections, and tackles topics from love, lust, and longing to prisons, police violence, and migration.
Joan Kelsey's Silver Lining is an unusual string trio from Troy NY that weaves together melodies that call upon the immediate, the memory, and the metaphor.
