A surrealist poet, talented guitarist, cult artist, and musician's musician, Robyn Hitchcock is among alternative rock's father figures and is the closest thing the genre has to a Bob Dylan. Hitchcock blends folk and psychedelia with a wry British nihilism and describes his songs as paintings you can listen to. Hitchcock came to prominence in the late 70s with the neo-psych band The Soft Boys, before embarking on a solo career in 1981. Since then, he's recorded 21 hooky and playfully eccentric albums, and earned a reputation as one of the most prolific performers in rock history.
