Created and Performed by Laura Levinson and Sami Pfeffer
Sami and Laura are two queer/trans, able-bodied,* white artists. As two white performers, whiteness will be centered whether we address it or not. We engage whiteness onstage in order to support the dismantling of white colonial capitalism and the healing of whiteness on a cellular level. Themes we are exploring in our work include: accountability for irreparable harm, care outside of economies of debt, gut health, and (dis)embodied experiences of home.
The gut and the organs manifest the physiological experiences of rage, revolt, and regeneration on a deep, ancestral, and cellular level. We combine our performative practices of puppetry, dance, mixed media and community art into an immersive, movement-based environment. We invite audiences into a strange, whimsical world of gut flora and fauna, ritual and procession, public and private grief. We use informed, consensual audience participation as a tool for reclaiming performance/movement-making and building resilient community.
We'll try to update our Facebook event and BLB show page with content warnings** as we continue to devise this show. More detailed content warnings** will be offered in written and verbal English to each attendee in person.
*We both experience chronic digestive pain/dis-ease, which troubles our identities as visibly able-bodied people.
**We don't like using the word warning here; if anyone has suggested alternatives, please let us know!
