Keagan McCully has been playing guitar for almost longer than he can remember. Inspired by bands such as The National, PHOX and Bon Iver, he has found a home in the genre of indie-rock. In the summer of 2017, he self-produced his first EP, Renew, with the support of several musician friends and bandmates. Renew marked the beginning of a journey, as he finally came to a point where he felt confident sharing his work with wider audiences than solely his friends and family. Musically, these songs center themselves around McCully's acoustic guitar and his baritone voice, often with swelling electric guitar embellishments. Though he takes credit for most of the songwriting, he'll be sure to tell you who else made the EP come together. On five of the tracks, Kevin Yetter provides backing drums and percussion. Bassist Maddie Thies keeps the tracks rooted with both electric and double bass. On two songs, Aidan Sponheim's trumpet creates an additional emotional layer, reaching straight to the heart of the listener. McCully's longtime musical companion, Gabriela Lucia, adds angelic harmonies to the opening track. "Renew would not have been the same without their help," McCully writes, "they all kept me driven and focused on what really mattered. It was an incredibly tough and taxing project, but I'm so glad it came together."

Encouraged by the success of Renew, McCully spent most of 2018 writing and recording a full-length album, Days That We Had, which he released in September. To many, including himself, Days marks an evolution from his earlier work, as it explores themes of longing, loss and hope through wider, more epic, sonically-diverse soundscapes. Each song is unique in its own way, lyrically and musically. Compared to Renew, Days was less of a collaborative effort, but still one nonetheless. Yetter's drumming shines through in every track, and the addition of acoustic and electric piano, provided by Yetter and McCully, became a primary instrument in many of the songs. Gabriela Lucias subtle vocal embellishments seep through the sonic expanse that is the opening track, and her and Yetter provide harmonies later on in the albums title track. "We had more time for experimentation on this record," McCully writes. "Each song seem to have its own course of evolution. And even though they've been released, each time we play them I find that I see them in a different light."

On January 13th, you have the chance to experience the soul-warming enchantment of the music of Keagan McCully and his friends. They'll be showcasing the songs from Days That We Had, and the older favorites from Renew. You can expect to witness solo acoustic performances and full-band jams. Music from their hearts to yours.
