Kate Schrock concert to Benefit Milestone Foundation's Home Team
Several years back at a neighbor's birthday party, singer-songwriter Kate Schrock met a new friend who changed her life and led her to a deep connection with Milestone Recovery, Portland's only wet homeless shelter, and to the courageous team of men and women who comprise the HOME TEAM - offering safe transport to homeless neighbors in need of emergency shelter in the greater Portland area.
"I could not have imagined a more compassionate group. I rode with them one night in Portland in the pouring rain while they brought their clientele to safe warm shelter for the night. Their dedication, patience, skill, empathy and disarming humour was so profound. But it is the wintertime which concerns me most", Schrock explains. "It is hard for just us regular old folks, but for those who are homeless and fighting addiction, the winter can be not only lonely but deadly". The folks of the HOME TEAM save lives everyday.
Almost every winter now for the past several years since the clandestine meeting, Schrock has offered a concert to help raise funds and awareness of the folks on the front lines of local homelessness crisis and care. Last year she approached St. Lawrence Arts in her efforts to raise needed funds for this most vulnerable group of folks. Once again this year, Kate and St. Lawrence Arts are offering an intimate solo concert in which 100% of the proceeds will be donated to Milestone Recovery HOME TEAM and Emergency Shelter. In addition, Kate and St. Lawrence are asking for donations of warm hats, gloves, socks, Fleece blankets, soap, toiletries, snack bars, and other non-perishable food items. These items can be dropped off the night of the show or during the week in advance of the concert in the lobby of St. Lawrence, and will be delivered to Milestone on December 29th.
