Taarka is a modern string band that performs a blended evolution of Western and Eastern folk traditions. Described as a collision of Django Reinhardt and David Grisman, the group has derived its' sound from diverse influences including bluegrass, pop rock, folk, old-time, jazz, and Celtic music. The Colorado-based group is led by the husband-wife duo, David (mandolin, tenor guitar, vocals) and Enion Pelta-Tiller (five-string violin, vocals) who began their musical partnership as a Gypsy jazz busker act in the New York City subway.

As a band, they have shared the stage with artists such as the Grateful Dead, Phish, Yonder Mountain String Band, Sufjan Stevens, and The Decembrists and have been part of some of the more prominent festivals around the world (High Sierra, Pagosa Folk n' Bluegrass, Northwest String Summit, Mendocino Music Festival, Berkeley World Music Festival).

Taarka's ability to fuse and reinterpret traditional genres is groundbreaking and unforgettable and we are honored to have them as a part of our Bright New Music Series this month.
