The Special Creek Bluegrass Band, named for a stream near where the band was formed years ago, plays traditional bluegrass music--a style developed by Bill Monroe in the 1940s and refined by countless bands since that time. Based right here in Saratoga, the band performs all around upstate New York. Paul Vinsel provides fine Scruggs-style banjo picking, Bob Zink's solid and energetic bass anchors the band's sound, and Bill Healy plays guitar and mandolin. Everyone sings, and the different vocal styles of each member allow the band to present a wide range of material. They love making music, and their enthusiasm shows in every song. For this performance the band is joined by veteran musician and radio personality (WAMC's Bluegrass Time) Nick Barr on fiddle and mandolin.
