Martha Gallagher's vision of the harp is expansive; acknowledging and honoring it's rich history, while at the same time exploring it's contemporary musical voice. It takes an instrument this diverse to give voice to all the music that sings through the heart of this unique artist. Her power of performance, diversity of music, and obvious joy in what she shares with the audience is tangible. Her original songs glide in the blink of an eye from wailing blues to Latin grooves to Classical inspirations, from swingin' Jazz to vibrant contemporary Folk. With a background in theater and creative movement, her performances have a vitality that is radiant.
Martha has been a flautist in a symphony orchestra and lead singer in a rock band. She has performed with six-time Grammy winners The Chieftains. Her solo tours have wound the US and into Canada, with several tours sponsored by The National Endowment for the Arts. She has been featured on numerous television and radio programs, has guest taught at Berklee and the New England Conservatory, and has been featured at harp festivals coast to coast.
