Contorting Metaphysical Hijinks is a short film program featuring the films of Amir George. Through his short films Amir navigates the complexities of life while allowing himself to move within, through, and around structuring narratives of power, love, joy, trauma and self, thereby negotiating how he understands the multi-dimensionality of being. The program is an amalgamation of spiritual stories juxtaposing sound and image with a non-linear perception. Fragmented vignettes that conjure the secret life of objects both found and collected that reside in a world within a world.
Amir George is a filmmaker and curator, based in Chicago. George is the founder of The Cinema Culture, a grassroots film programming organization, and co-founder, with Curator Erin Christovale, of Black Radical Imagination, a touring experimental short film series. As an artist, George's films have screened at institutions and film festivals including Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, Institute of Contemporary Arts, London, Anthology Film Archives, Glasgow School of Art, The Museum of Contemporary Arts Los Angeles, Museum of Contemporary Arts Chicago, MoMa PS1, Ann Arbor Film Festival, Trinidad and Tobago International Film Festival, BlackStar Film Festival, Afrikana Film Festival, and Chicago Underground Film Festival, among others.
Cellular Cinema is an organically evolving, ongoing screening series of experimental film, video, and performance. We are the only regularly occurring event in Minneapolis or St. Paul that features short form, experimental contemporary moving image art.
The Cellular Cinema community is dedicated to the idea that moving image art can be a realm of exploration, improvisation and play on a small scale, using a wide range of tools, techniques and technologies, unbound by the commercial considerations of mainstream narrative media.
We have the capacity to screen work on 16mm, super-8, sometimes with multiple projectors, sometimes including live sound or performance accompaniment, as well as HD and SD video.
NO REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES.
