Chapter Tour of the MET Highschool
Join us for a chapter tour and presentation of The MET Sacramento Highschool, a dynamic charter school in the Sacramento City Unified School District. A permanent facility was needed that was as unique as the pedagogy The MET delivers. Stafford King Wiese studied five school sites graded on four categories flexibility of environment, community connectivity, environmental responsibility and potential funding sources. The chosen site was a school originally built in the 1940's located in the urban core. The renovation of the existing building included moving walls to create a variety of classrooms sizes and breakout spaces. Each advisory room (classrooms) now has a distinct personality, technology, bright color and ample daylight from the bank of operable windows and skylights. Flexibility is key at The MET as advisors (teachers) are able to move furniture around their rooms to fit instruction needs. The breakout spaces are located between two classrooms for group discussions or one-on-one instruction. The addition of the new building creates a true quad at the heart of the compact urban campus. Sustainable finishes are used throughout the spaces such as the reclaimed wood from school bleachers used on the ceiling in the entry. The campus also has a bike shop, music studio, and raised-bed vegetable garden.
