Presenting the movie "Tangerine"
Featuring Andrea Jenkins in conversation with Alexis Pauline Gumbs, author and Professor of Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies at the University of Minnesota

This film series takes place at the Bryant Lake Bowl on the first Wednesday of the month. Each screening will begin with a brief (10 minute) introduction of the movie by the writer who will discuss how it has informed or inspired their writing practice. After the movie, the writer and a specialist (someone engaged with the film's themes or subject matter - a dancer/ scientist/ lawyer/ painter/ film scholar/ activist etc.) will have a conversation about the film, writing, art making and the ways in which different practices inform one another. The audience is invited to participate in the conversation through questions and comments. There will be food and drinks and smart artists saying smart things!
Andrea Jenkins is an internationally recognized writer, performer, poet, transgender activist, and first African American openly trans woman elected to office in a major US city. Prior to her election, Jenkins was curator of the Transgender Oral History Project at the University of Minnesota Tretter Collection.
Alexis Pauline Gumbs is the author of M Archive: After the End of the World, Spill: Scenes of Black Feminist Fugitivity and the forthcoming Dub: Finding Ceremony all from Duke University Press. She is also co-editor of Revolutionary Mothering: Love on the Front Lines. Alexis lives in Durham North Carolina where she co-creates the Black Feminist Bookmobile project, the Mobile Homecoming Trust and Brilliance Remastered. She currently holds the visiting Winton Chair in Gender, Women and Sexuality Studies at University of Minnesota.
