The year 2018 observed the 100-year anniversary of the end of World War I, the war that was to end all wars. Yet the world remains plagued by threats of terrorism, nuclear escalation, civil war, and genocide. Too much of the world's population lives in daily fear of violence. In War & Peace, Vesper Chorale unites voices with the Bethel College Concert Choir and Vesper Chamber Orchestra to present Ralph Vaughan Williams' monumental plea for peace, Dona nobis pacem. The work is gripping and moving, reminding the listener of the horrors of war but also prompting hope for a better future. Additionally, the choirs will present smaller pieces on related themes, and the orchestra will perform Samuel Barber's haunting Adagio for Strings, a piece which dates to just before World War II but is often also associated with the assassination of JFK. Join us for an evening of music that will stir and inspire and remind us of music's power to direct us toward hope!
