ABOUT THE PRODUCTION
An Argentine guerilla theatrical group gathers in a dusty Buenos Aires tango bar at midnight on July 26, 1972, exactly twenty years after the death of their patron, Eva Duarte Peron, to celebrate her life by reenacting it for an invited audience. And you are there as her story unfolds on stage in song and dance, from her beginnings as a poor teenager growing up in Junin, to her success as an ambitious radio/film star in Buenos Aires, to her subsequent rise becoming the most powerful woman in Latin America as the wife of Argentine military leader-turned-politician President Juan Peron, before her untimely death from cancer at the age of 33.
Landmark Musical Theatre's reimagined revival of EVITA remains totally faithful to the words and music of Andrew Lloyd Webber's and Tim Rice's Tony Award-winning musical, with a fresh and unusual setting and a cast of 12 adults and one young teenager. The intimacy of our production offers a fresh look at this iconic woman and her ascent as First Lady of Argentina. The Shelton's off-Broadway-like Main Stage, with seating for just 72, puts you close to the action and offers you an unprecedented opportunity to connect with each character in this masterpiece of musical theater.
The classic score features some of Webber and Rice's biggest hits, including On This Night of A Thousand Stars, High Flying Adored, Another Suitcase in Another Hall and of course, the signature song of the show, Don't Cry for Me Argentina, all performed, as always at Landmark, with live music.
IMPORTANT CAST NOTICE Several of our performances will feature our lead understudies and/or our ensemble "swing" players. If you are interested in seeing a particular cast member in the show, please be sure to check the performance chart on our website.
