More than fifty years after his death, Hank Williams ranks among the most powerfully iconic figures in American music. Iconic to the point that man and myth are inextricably entwined. He set the agenda for contemporary country song-craft and sang his songs with such honesty that we feel privy to his world, despite the fact that he left no in-depth interviews and just a few letters. His brief life and tragic death have only compounded his appeal. Hank did leave behind a rich and varied recorded legacy, including over 150 original songs , 35 top ten singles and 11 number one hits in his brief career. Hank Williams was just 29 years old when he passed away in the back seat of his car on the way to a New year's Day show.
I started writing songs after I heard Hank Williams stated Bob Dylan, So did I! says The Bluebillies band leader Melody Guarino. Hailing from the lower Adirondack area, Caffe Lena veterans, The Bluebillies, will bring their dynamic performing style to the Hank Williams discography, with Melody and her husband Mark's rich harmonies supported by legendary Adirondack fiddler Frank Orsini, and the powerful father/son instrumental team of John and Orion Kribs. The Bluebillies draw their sound from the same wellspring as Hank Williams did; old-time gospel, early bluegrass and folk music, and southern roots music, but they also bring a refreshing modern energy to the classic sources that makes their music almost tough to categorize as country music
