Presented by Commutator Collective Written by MARGE
Commutator Collective presents "PHYLLOXERA!" a new play about the Great French Wine Blight. Follow two French sisters and their genderqueer sibling as they face off against flamethrower-wielding German vintners, an amoral American aphid, and a foreign trade crisis in the greatest showdown of the mid-19th century. Local wine specialist Solar Champion will host an evening of casual theatregoing, heavy drinking, and the history of a canonically-neglected catastrophe. Fueled by close proximity to bowling and strategically-organized wine discounts for ticket holders, Commutator Collective will explore this viticultural tragedy in all of its grapey goriness.
Conceived by Sam Weisberg and MARGE, written by MARGE, and designed by Ray Gorlin, "PHYLLOXERA!" will be the premiere of Commutator Collective. Sam is a Minneapolis-based theatremaker and wine-seller. MARGE is a Boston-based playwright and actor. Ray is a Minneapolis-based visual artist. "PHYLLOXERA!" will be created by all of them + a fabulous group of Twin Cities theatremakers and actors during a month-long residency at the Bryant-Lake Bowl.
"PHYLLOXERA!" will be presented on 4 weekend evenings + 1 Monday industry night (because wine + theatre = awesome).
