Peter Gallway
Throughout the 1970s and 80s, Peter Gallway was one of the most popular and respected musical figures on the Maine music scene. He and his band (The Real Band) recorded and released several critically acclaimed albums and crisscrossed the region as one of the most popular and hardest working live bands in New England. Gallway also produced many other local artists, most notably albums by Devonsquare and Aztec Two Step. The Portland Press Herald wrote in 1985, that it is no figure of speech to say that Peter Gallway is the rock and roll laureate of Maine.
Peter played his last headlining show in Maine in 1988 before moving to his native New York City and then Southern California where he made over a dozen full length albums and produced dozens of others for other artists. However, in 2017, as his residence on Ojai, California was surrounded by wildfire, Gallway and his wife and partner, the acclaimed singer-songwriter Annie Gallup, looked at each other and realized it was time to return to Maine.
Maine has remained in my blood and memory as a place of musical creativity Gallway says, and most of all, a feeling of home. They have recently relocated to the Rockland area where they will continue their musical careers.
On July 29th 2018 Gallway will play his first headlining show in Maine in almost 25 years as he takes the stage for a very special and intimate performance at St Lawrence Arts on Portlands Munjoy Hill. Accompanied by The Real Band (Mark Wainer, Andrea Re), Gallway will play material from throughout his career and his most recent album Feels Like Religion.
