Minnesota Female Vocalist of the Year Award recipient Karen Vieno Paurus, known as "The Sultry Chanteuse," takes the stage with Fr. Vito Sarducci this July at the Bryant-Lake Bowl. Or as Fr. Vito calls it 'Our Lady of the Alleys.'
Ms. Paurus has been gracing stages nationally and internationally since the 80s! A true entertainer known as "The Sultry Chanteuse," she elegantly commands the stage, maneuvering between poignant, quirky, and sometimes even downright bawdy.
She has written original music for two popular shows with local comedienne/writer Colleen Kruse. "Becoming Inga" has been featured at the Bryant Lake Bowl Cabaret Theater, the Minnesota Fringe Festival, and most recently at the Box Theater in New York. Their previous show "Thirty Days in Frogtown" sold out regularly and was also staged at the Historic Pantages Theater.
Her solo CD, "Passion, Prayer and Poison," is a collection of covers and originals by the singer/songwriter/pianist. She has fronted such Minneapolis bands as Holiday Ranch and BUG!
Along with producer Gina Woods "Kiss of Fire" was born then beautifully staged at the Southern Theater and can now be seen regularly at Mattie's on Main in Minneapolis. The show features the chanteuse herself with a dazzling array of local and nationally-known performers and musicians. Paurus continues to perform as a guest with many local and national burlesque troupes.
Ms. Paurus helped to originate and was a regular performer with Lili's Burlesque Revue for nearly a decade.
Tom Esch has been experimenting with stand-up comedy for the past three years as Fr. Vito Sarducci. He got his start on a little island on Cass Lake at a church camp. From there hes gone "big time" - from the Blue Harbor in St. Paul "Vito, Paul and Mary," The Black Forest Inn (Sacred Chaos with Tom Cassidy) in Minneapolis, Sacred Clay Farm in Lanesboro to the Bryant Lake Bowl!
Tom is an actual former Catholic priest, so he knows the role pretty well. He is attempting to de-shame the story using humor, music and creativity. No, he didnt abuse anyone, shame on you for thinking it. Before Fr. Vito, Toms theater background includes one appearance as the African American servant boy in Finians Rainbow at St. Rose of Lima in 1975.
Come ready to enjoy gorgeous vocals, reflections on life's simple pleasures, spiritual pain and of course the elegant power of shame.
NO REFUNDS OR EXCHANGES.
