Produced and Hosted by Amy Salloway and Martha Benda
Story Club Minneapolis is a live monthly storytelling show featuring both an open mic segment and a curated set of performers from all over the Twin Cities arts scene and beyond. The Story Club stage showcases true, autobiographical stories -- especially stories that are bold, vulnerable, unexpected, and connected to the complexity of our cultural environment... and especially voices that audiences might not get to hear in other contexts. Founded in 2009 by actor/writer Dana Norris as part of the explosively popular live lit scene in Chicago, Story Club gained citywide attention and rave reviews, and quickly branched out to create chapters in other cities, including Boston, Cleveland and Columbus, OH. Here in Minneapolis, no two Story Club evenings are ever alike, but each month when we wrap up the show, we feel like weve witnessed a new, unique little community coming together.
So! Starting at 6pm, audience members are invited to put their names in the jar for the opportunity to tell an up-to-7-minute story onstage. When the show begins, three or four tellers are drawn at random to perform, and they'll be followed by our featured guests. Does this make you want to tell a story? GOOD! (Do it! Do it! Do it!)
Your host for the night is Amy Salloway (www.amysalloway.com)! To see who our featured performers are each month, please visit our page on Facebook (www.facebook.com/StoryClubMinneapolis), on Twitter (@storyclubMN) or on Instagram (@storyclubminneapolis).
We hope to hear YOUR story soon!
Julys featured performers are Adrienne Louise Kleinman and Karen Cadigan!
Adrienne is one of the last remaining born and raised Uptownians who still lives within walking distance of her childhood home. She attributes her colorful and quirky upbringing as the main driving force behind her creativity, and thrives off of the eccentricities of humanity. A coffee shop observer, a devoted cat mother, and an aspiring filmmaker, she hopes to one day write a memoir that perfectly captures what it means to be a double Virgo. In the meantime, her super extra statuses on Facebook will have to suffice.
Karen Cadigan is a newcomer to the story stage. She is an educator, writer, lover of mountains and music festivals. She lives in St Louis Park with her family.
