Every month a different local musician performs their original music. Between songs, a group of local improvisors, The Local Music Scene, improvises comedic scenes inspired by the lyrics. Hosted by Philip Simondet. https://www.facebook.com/thelocalmusicsceneimprov/
Nick Hensley's Love Songs for Angry Men: The Acoustic Solo, Duo, Trio, and 4-8 Piece Full Band with the Terrible Name
Nick Hensley is the former lead singer and co-creator of The District, a regional soul & rock act from the upper Midwest based out of St. Paul, MN and Chicago, IL. Hensley created Love Songs for Angry Men shortly after The District called it quits in 2002. Hensleys alias, stage name and alter ego, Love Songs for Angry Men, originated as a bad joke, similar to other short-lived band names like Amish Puppy Mill and Billys Little Secret. Unfortunately for Nick and his band members, more than 15 years later THE NAME JUST WONT GO AWAY!
Hensleys two studio albums were released in 2009 and 2013 to sold out crowds in St. Paul and Minneapolis. The albums are currently available at all major retailers, live shows, and online. They have received several rave reviews from different media outlets including a 4-star review from Paste Magazine, altcountry.com, and a City Pages Best of 2010. Their next album, tentatively titled Adventures and Anxiety, is due to be released in December 2018.
Nick Hensleys Love Songs for Angry Men has maintained a full schedule since 2002, playing more than 200 shows a year throughout the US and overseas in Ireland, England, and Germany. He has shared the stage with several national acts including The Why Store, Alex Ligertwood of Santana, Fastball, Big Head Todd and The Monsters, The Gear Daddies, The Samples, The Pines, Low, Semisonic, Trampled By Turtles, The Wallflowers, Soul Asylum, Colin Hay, Ryan Adams and many more.
Hensley is also a booking agent and an avid supporter of local music. He has created some of Minnesotas most popular songwriter showcases including MNaked and the MN Songwriter Showcase, held every Sunday at Plums in St. Paul and every Wednesday at The Aster Cafe in Northeast Minneapolis.
