This month's Bright Series features sensational fiddle player and vocalist Phoebe Hunt and her group The Gatherers. This group showcases impressive musicianship, powerful lyrics, danceable rhythms, and cross-cultural musical exploration.
A top-shelf Americana fiddler who recently logged a year in Ben Sollee's touring band, Phoebe Hunt ignited her solo career with her 2017 album, "Shanti's Shadow." It was the culmination of a five-year journey that took her from her Austin roots through Music Row, Brooklyn, and even to India to study with seventh-generation master violinist Kala Ramnath. Along the way, Phoebe found her voice and delivered her most inspired set of songs to date.
In 2017, Rolling Stone Country named her one of their 10 New Country Artists You Need To Know. Her music has been praised by NPR, World Cafe, Bluegrass Situation, Relix and Folk Alley. Hunt recently appeared on Mountain Stage and eTown, and is currently on tour opening for Sierra Hull. She has also shared a stage with Emmylou Harris, The Infamous Stringdusters, Tony Trischka, and Dori Freeman.
