Series directed by Angela Pelster
Featuring Gretchen Marquette and Ryan Fontaine

This new monthly film series will begin with a brief (5-10 minute) introduction of the movie by the writer who will discuss how it has informed or inspired their writing practice. After the movie, the writer and a specialist (someone engaged with the film's themes or subject matter - a dancer/ scientist/ lawyer/ painter/ film scholar/ activist etc.) will have a conversation about the film, writing, art making, and the ways in which different practices inform one another. The audience is invited to participate in the conversation through questions and comments. There will be food and drinks and smart artists saying smart things!

Gretchen Marquette is the author of May Day (Graywolf Press, 2016.) Her poetry has appeared in Poetry, Harper's, the Paris Review, Tin House, PBS Newshour, and elsewhere. She lives in Minneapolis.

Ryan Fontaine is a Minneapolis based painter, sculptor, and co-director of HAIRandNAILS Contemporary Art with partner Kristin Van Loon. Utilizing a wide range of source material and production strategies, his artistic focus is on the confounding failure of our ability to articulate our raw visual experience.
