Produced and Hosted by Amy Salloway, Sam Larsen-Feree, and Martha Benda Featuring Lucas Scheelk and Christina
Story Club Minneapolis is a live monthly storytelling show featuring both an open mic segment and a curated set of performers from all over the Twin Cities arts scene and beyond. The Story Club stage showcases true, autobiographical stories -- especially stories that are bold, risky, vulnerable, unexpected, and connected to the complexity of our cultural environment...and especially voices that audiences might not get to hear in other contexts. No two Story Club evenings are ever alike, but each month when we wrap up the show, we feel like weve witnessed a new, unique little community coming together.
So! Starting at 6pm, audience members are invited to put their names in the jar for the opportunity to tell an up-to-7-minute story onstage. When the show begins, three or four tellers are drawn at random to perform, and they'll be followed by our featured guests. Does this make you want to tell a story? GOOD! (Do it! Do it! Do it!)
Lucas Scheelk is a white, autistic, trans, queer-identified poet from the Twin Cities. Lucas uses they/them/their pronouns. They're the author of This Is A Clothespin (Damaged Goods Press, 2016), and Holmes Is A Person As Is (self-published, 2016). Lucas was a VSA MN Emerging Artist grant recipient in 2016. They were also one of the 24 poets chosen for the 2017 Saint Paul Almanac Impressions Project. You can reach them on Facebook (@lucasscheelk), on Twitter (@TC221Bee), or on Instagram (@lucasscheelk).
Christina is your average 32-year-old college student. When she isn't studying physiology or microbiology, she loves tooling leather, working out and playing Call of Duty. This is her first time telling a story live on an official stage.
