Produced and Hosted by Amy Salloway, Sam Larsen-Feree, and Martha Benda
Join Story Club Minneapolis in March at the Bryant Lake Bowl for our Ides of March show, in which we hope there's nothing to beware except tired cheek muscles from laughing and smiling for 80 minutes. (OMG we are so dorky. Who writes these things?)
Story Club is a non-fiction, autobiographical storytelling show that combines the spontaneity of an open mic with the experience of live theater. Our evening features both audience members (some stepping up to the microphone for the first time ever) and curated performers from all over the Twin Cities arts scene and beyond. We love new storytellers! We love old storytellers! Every month when we wrap up the show, we feel like we've created a new, unique little community of beginners and polished artists alike.
So! Starting at 6pm, audience members are invited to put their names in the jar for the opportunity to tell an up-to-7-minute story onstage. The three or four storytellers picked from the jar by the host will bare their souls and talents, and they'll be followed by our featured guests. Does this make you want to tell a story? GOOD! (Do it! Do it! Do it!)
March's show hosts are Amy Salloway, Martha Benda and Sam Feree, and Marchs featured performers are Heidi Arneson, Tony Hauser, and Danielle K.L. Gregoire!
Heidi Arnesons 25 years of original storytelling have been called "BLOODY BRILLIANT" by critic Jay Gabler, "Original, entertaining & wildly unpredictable" by critic Noel Holston and "Nothing short of astonishing" by author Jenna Zark. Her awards include a Bush Artist Fellowship, her plays include BloodyMerryJammyParty, her first novel, Interlocking Monsters, was released in 2017, and her second novel will be released in 2018.
Tony Hausers 40-year concert career spans flamenco, classical, Latin American and Brazilian guitar. His Concerto for Flamenco Guitar & Chamber Orchestra premiered with the MN Sinfonia, with Jay Fishman conducting. He has performed at Kennedy Center; toured throughout the United States with guitar legends Charlie Byrd and brother Michael Hauser; played guitar for the Mill City Opera's Maria de Buenos Aires; and released his CD, Isaac Albeniz ESPAÑA, in November 2017.
Danielle K.L. Gregoire is a parent, poet, storyteller, standup comedian, and big-hearted-sensitive-co-dependent-artist-type and community enabler. Danielle helped start and run one of Canadas longest running slam poetry nights, and was on the national board of directors of SpoCan in its infancy. After moving to Seattle, Danielle founded the Comedy Womb (now the Comedy Nest) in 2013, and ran it until 2015, when she became the producer for the Seattle Moth storySLAM, which she ran for nearly two years before handing THAT off, and taking on more personal projects, including; soap making, craft fairs, and her very own storytelling show And Other Stories. She is soon moving back to Canada, and is taking this opportunity to travel across the U.S. with her storytelling show Soap and Other Stories. Thank you for welcoming her into your city.
