Presented by Pat O'Brien Starring Pat O'Brien, Larry Ripp, Sam Ahern, and Brad Erickson
The StarTribune picked both of these 2017 Minnesota Fringe Shows as "Must See! Don't Miss!"
"Edward Albee's Zoo Story gets a sizzling revival! The play may be almost 60 years old, but it's not showing any wrinkles in this remount directed by Pat O'Brien. Two strangers meet at a park bench. Brad Erickson's Peter is enjoying a book when Sam Ahern's jittery and explosive Jerry compels him to listen to his story. Jerry draws Peter and the audience inexorably down a rabbit hole as he paces the stage, eyes darting, arms flailing. Erickson is a perfect foil, his genial urbanity devolving into bewildered panic. Together they remind us why this one-act is a classic." - StarTribune
Whisper Into My Good Ear: "It's easy to see that something is up when two old men meet on a park bench in New York City just before Christmas in William Hanley's one-act. What's up is that these lonely old duffers are going to end it all. What follows is a masterfully acted and deeply moving conversation about what you do when it seems like life has run its course. Lawrence Ripp's outgoing Charlie is a perfect contrast to Patrick O'Brien's reserved Max, but both carry decades of hard living and loneliness in their sad eyes and stooped postures. Max's big secret doesn't carry the same weight now as it did in 1962, but Charlie's reaction and his sudden desire to keep living makes this a sublime and moving show." - StarTribune. The show has been garnering 5 star reviews and "Best of the Fest" designations on the Fringe circuit from D.C. to Indianapolis to London! (Full disclosure, that's London, Ontario.)
Both shows feature two guys on a park bench in Central Park. With weapons.
