Tom Paxton is one of the greats of American Folk Music. When asked to speak about Paxton, Pete Seeger compared him to Woody Guthrie for his ability to capture the contemporary American spirit over the course of a song. Through his lyrics, Tom Paxton tackles issues of injustice and humanity, absurdities of contemporary culture, and stories from his own life, which are sometimes somber, sometimes hilarious, and often both at once.
In 1961, Paxton was one of the first performers to play at the newly opened Caffe Lena. Since then, Paxton has played with the likes of Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, Phil Ochs, and Dave Van Ronk, received a Grammy lifetime achievement award, and inspired several generations worth of singer-songwriters.
Tonight, Paxton will return to Caffe Lena accompanied by Grammy-winning singer-songwriter duo The DonJuans (Don Henry and Jon Vezner).
