"Prisons do not disappear social problems, they disappear human beings." -Angela Davis
Soul Rebel Performance Troupe, in collaboration with Prisoners Legal Services, is honored to present VOICES FROM INSIDE ~ performed monologues, poetry and vignettes written by people who are currently incarcerated, with musical accompaniment and songs by Roosevelt Baker & friends. The cast includes members of the Meta Theatre Company, a theater group that writes, produces and performs theatric work on site with incarcerated women at the Edna Mahan Correctional Facility, New Jersey.
Soul Rebel Performance Troupe is a Capital District theater group dedicated to highlighting and producing theatrical work by and about people of color and other marginalized groups, and fostering cross-cultural understanding through the performing arts. The incarcerated men and women who submitted entries for this production are proud to know their words and stories are being performed publicly to call attention to the human toll of our prison industrial complex. Voices from Inside gives an insightful nuanced voice to the 2.3 million men and women who are incarcerated, invisible and unheard.
