From the fertile stringband scene of the upper midwest comes The Last Revel, a hard-touring young band just breaking into our region with appearances at Freshgrass 2017, Burlingtons Higher Ground, and NYCs Brooklyn Bowl. Vincenzio Donatelle, Ryan Acker and Lee Hencke kick up the excitement with folk, rockabilly, gospel hymns, blues, and old-time woven together with three-part harmonies, tons of strings, kick drum and harmonica. With an expansive emotional range, from bombastic foot-stompers to haunting ballads, they succeed in balancing innovation and tradition. They released their third album, Hazard & Fate, earlier this year.
The Slocan Ramblers are Canadas young bluegrass band to watch. Rooted in the tradition, fearlessly creative, and possessing a bold, dynamic sound, The Slocans (2015 Edmonton Folk Fest Emerging Artist Award recipients), have quickly become a leading light of Canadas roots music scene, built on their reputation for energetic live shows, impeccable musicianship and their uncanny ability to convert anyone within earshot into a lifelong fan.
