Historic Preservation and the California Historic Building Code
This presentation was endorsed & prepared for the Redwood Empire Association of Code Officials (RECO)

Mark Parry, AIA, will outline the key issues of the preservation industry and the Historic Building Code including a brief history of the preservation movement and its significant issues.

Learning Objectives:

1.Understand the basic history of the Preservation movement
2.Have a working knowledge of the presuppositions impacting Historic Buildings, Districts and Landmark Properties.
3.Understand the significant issues that determine the application of the California Historic Building Code.
4.Understand the key elements regarding ADA and Structural issues as they relate to historic buildings and the life
Health safety and welfare of a buildings users.

Wm. Mark Parry AIA,CSI,SAH

A Historic Architect and Educator with SRJC community education and Sonoma State Construction management program. Mark has accomplished approximately 375 completed projects with a mix of 30% Historic 40% custom homes and  renovations, and 30% specialty commercial/ hospitality.  He was educated  at Arizona State University with concurrent degrees in architecture and interior architecture. He interned and was on staff with the Frank Lloyd Wright foundation. He established Idea Studios as a sustainable, site driven, design  practice employing contextually influenced aesthetics in 1988. He established Artisan Architecture.com in 2012 to advance the creation of and ideas related to the art and craft in building.

Mark is a third-generation Artisan Architect. The last associate of Calvin C Straub, F.A.I.A.  (1920-1998) Cal  was a prominent architect and educator raised in the Pasadena Arroyo Craftsmen culture learning his craft through associations with F.L. Wright, Henry Green, R.M. Schindler and Richard Neutra.  Straub advanced the arts and crafts tenants through his internationally known Mid-Century Modernism and as a  Professor of Architecture at USC and ASU wining over 30 design awards.
