An acclaimed master of American roots music, mandolinist and songwriter Joe K. Walshs music career has been prolific and busy. Hes toured with acts like Darol Anger and the Gibson Brothers, founded the progressive string quartet Joy Kills Sorrow, and, when hes not performing, teaches at Berklee College of Music. His newest project is Sweet Loam, a collaboration with the astonishing fiddler John Mailander, guitarist Avril Smith (founding member of Della Mae), and bassist Brittany Karlson of the Goodbye Girls (also featuring Molly Tuttle, Lena DeGroot and Lena Jonsson). Listening to Walsh's music, his love for traditional rural songwriting is apparent, yet his songs never seem dated. Instead, Walsh and Sweet Loam combine the old and the new as he explores the vast well of roots music, yielding gorgeous and often surprising results.
