The iconic Italian mandolin accompanied immigrants through seas and continents, inside cardboard suitcases to unknown lands. Wherever it landed it merged with the local culture, becoming part of the modern melting pot of music. Tonight we'll enjoy a glorious musical journey from Italian folksongs to bluegrass, from soundtracks to jazz and Brazilian music, from Italian popular song to a review of the classical repertoire with celebrated mandolinist Carlo Aonzo, guitarist and singer Lorenzo Piccone, and bassist Luciano Puppo.
Local Legends Alan Epstein and Hui Cox will be teaming up to open the show.
Alan Epstein has been pickin the mandolin throughout the country over the last 30 years. Currently living in Washington county, Alan has played in bands in Colorado, Pennsylvania, Michigan and now in upstate New York. Since 2012 Alan been a popular Wernick instructor in the area and at camps nationwide.
We got lucky when Hui Cox landed in town. Teaching guitar at Bennington College and living in the Capital District, Hui is a celebrated producer, composer, Grammy nominee, and recipient of two grants for composition from the National Endowment for the Arts, who has toured the world and recorded with Cab Calloway, Odetta, Liza Minnelli, Melba Moore, Wilson Pickett, Stanley Turrentine, Richie Havens, The Temptations, The Four Tops, and many more of the greatest names in show business.
