Tonight we bring together two bands that like to rock up their folk music. The Pesky J. Nixon boys from Boston are contemporary urban balladeers with roots in rowdy southern bluegrass. Their compelling harmonies and narratives are accompanied by zydeco style accordion, virtuosic mandolin, a variety of tribal percussion, and guitar and bass. ilyAIMY (i love you And I Miss You) from Baltimore mixes genres from rock to folk to soul to bluegrass; flavours as varied as jazz and hip hop curl through their percussive acoustic rock. Hailed as an audience-voted "Most-Wanted Artist" at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival, ilyAIMY combines award-winning songwriting, tight male/female harmonies, signature intricate slap-style guitar work, ukulele, djembe and "a curiously Muppet-like stage presence" into an exquisite package.
