With a Mexo-Americana combo of Latin rhythms, infectious melodies, and call-and-response hollering, this ensemble is fronted by a charismatic Missourian singing tight harmony with a Southern belle rattling the jawbone of a donkey. They've been hailed by TIME for their "virtuosic musical skill" and they've built a reputation all over the U.S, Canada, Europe and China for "kicking up a cloud of excitement with their high-energy border-crossing sensibility" (The New Yorker).
Following mainstage appearances at Newport Folk Festival, marriage, and a growing family, David Wax and Suze Slezak are taking their band in bold new directions. Their arrival at the one decade milestone finds them pumping up their south-of-the-border folk melodies with rock and roll fervor and grappling with some weighty themes.
Ciaran Lavery may wield an acoustic guitar and write achingly beautiful universal truths, but he couldnt be further from the sensitive singer-songwriter archetype. Ciaran found his musical voice through the simplest of means, listening to old 80s singles on his sisters record player. Cutting his young teeth in various (often noisier) incarnations over the last decade that voice is now as soothing as it is timeless. Ciaran crafts heart-on-sleeve acoustic pop full of passion and meaning that will warm your heart and open your eyes to what is important.
