JUST NINE

Being fortunate enough to have had an abundance of musical influences such as Jazz, Soul, Rap, R&B, Rock & Roll and many more, the art of mixing and blending vinyl almost came together naturally for Kenichi Thomas aka DJ Just Nine. With the powerful influence of Hip Hop culture, perfecting the craft of DJing consumed his life from a young age. That same desire to perfect his craft has been noticed throughout the Twin Cities and beyond earning DJ Just Nine spots on Atmosphere tours, taking part in Rock the Bells Hip Hop Festival, playing multiple Soundset Hip Hop Festivals and acted as I Self Devines tour DJ for five years.

During that time he has also been holding down the decks for TUSS Music members Greg Grease, I.B.E and Akrite as well as playing countless nights throughout Minneapolis and St. Paul. Partnered with Greg Grease, he has performed countless events and festivals including 10,000 Sounds Festival, CMJ Music Festival, Stone Arch Festival, SxSW Music Festival, A3C Hip Hop Festival, SoundSet and more. Together with Greg Grease, he also teamed up with fellow musicians Myke Shevy, Proper T, Trelly Mo and Elliot Serber to created the future-funk-afro-astro band ZULUZULUU.

Just Nine is a DJ that understands the essence of what it means to be a Hip Hop DJ; planning sets with the emcees he works with by using his craft to grab and hold any crowds attention while he is on the turntables. His precision with cutting and scratching the records during his live sets is reminiscent of DJ's Mixmaster Mike, Qbert, Premier, Rob Swift, Jazzy Jeff, A-Trak, Craze and Klever and has lead to many placements on albums both locally and beyond.

FRANK CASTLE

It's as if he came out the womb and put the needle on the record. Frank Castle is a well rounded and versatile DJ, who's been playing records since a little kid at the family gatherings. Known to rock a party or few. You never really know what he might drop on you next. To add to the resume, Mr. Castle has backed a number of Minnesota's finest rappers such as Haphduzn, Muja Messiah, Tufawon, Meta, Illab, Bars & Measures, Whit, just to name a few.

TRAVIS GORMAN

Being the in-house producer for Devon Reason, Dwynell Roland, and Finding Novyon, some of the Twin Cities most talented rappers, is a tall order. But beatsmith Travis Gorman is up to the task, pacing each MC aboard his sample-driven beats. A clear throwback to Blockhead and early Def Jux production, Gorman chops up records into quirky boom-bap beats. Though his best work is found on wax and on stage alongside his Rotation crew  see This Year by Dwynell Roland and Pre-Heat by Finding Novyon  Gormans partnerships with Rich Garvey and GainesFM demonstrate the versatility of his cuts. When you see the parenthetical Prod. by Travis Gorman on a SoundCloud track, you can trust its gonna be a quality song.

DUA

Dua is a multidisciplinary performing artist based in Minneapolis. Using diverse afro-diasporic influences, the work produced by this artist provides audiences with ripe and unrefined emotions. Dua has gained regional recognition for song writing and spoken word. This has landed the artist the 2017 VERVE Grant for spoken word and readings at places like the Cedar Cultural Center, Lowertown Reading Jam, Button Poetry, the Minneapolis Institute of Arts, and more. Recently the artist has also received a role as a primary character in Sweetness of Wild a Free Black Dirt Production.

DJ ADATRAK

DJ Adatrak made his way to the stage in a decidedly unconventional way. After graduating from University of Minnesota with a degree in architecture, he knew his passion was more about building beats than structures. With this, Adatrak devoted his energy full time to honing his skills as a hip hop producer and DJ. Making a name for himself as a go-to DJ for private parties, Jimmy Cavanaugh a.k.a DJ Adatrak secured his first residency in 2008. Since then, he has performed in numerous major venues in and around his hometown of Minneapolis.

Making the rounds on the local hip hop scene eventually led to his becoming a prominent fixture as well as a member of Slipmats Radio. Thanks in part to this exposure, Adatrak is now DJ for Rhymesayers artist, deM atlaS. In addition to solo slots opening for Atmosphere and Prof, along with deM, he has played the same stage with well respected artists including: Nas, Brother Ali, Cypress Hill, Joey Badass, Grieves, Dialated Peoples, Grouch & Eligh, and Statik Selektah.

When listening to one of DJ Adatrak's fast-paced hip hop saturated sets, the combination of technical agility mixed with often unanticipated transitions are reminiscent of DJ Premier, Mr. Dibbs, and DJ Woody; all among those he cites as his chief influences. Whether producing or performing, his mixes are geared toward tapping into the energy of the crowd and taking it to the next level. Adatrak has toured throughout the country, playing at legendary venues to sold out crowds - proving that following his passion was the right choice. [Botanique]
