"The Exit" (WEXT 97.7 FM) has done wonders for the 518 music scene. They offer regular on-air showcases of regional emerging artists, live in-studio performances by touring bands appearing in the market, and play recorded music from across the musical spectrum. Tonight we are proud to join their 10th Anniversary month-long celebration with a concert featuring two artists who have connected with Capital District music lovers through WEXT's broadcast support.
Hailing from Boston, The Ladles have three-part female harmony perfected - but their sound is more than that. They are an amalgamation of their respective histories and influences, blending Swing, Old-Time, Neo-Soul, and contemporary choral music into a sound all their own. Using solely acoustic instrumentation and three voices, they create a dreamy otherworldly atmosphere that draws audiences in and demands attention. They quiet noisy bars and liven up staid concert halls. The Ladles are Katie Martucci, Caroline Kuhn, and Lucia Pontoniere.
At once timeless and original, singer-songwriter Alice Howe joins a soulful, impeccably tuned voice with poetic lyrics. A lifelong songwriter now based in Boston, Alice's musical sensibility lies in '60s folk and '70s Southern California songwriters, with comparisons drawn to the pure sounds of Joan Baez and Joni Mitchell. As a performer, Alice is sure-footed and captivating, familiar to her audience from the very first song. March 2017 brought the release of Alice's newest EP, "You've Been Away So Long." Tracing the New England native's years in the Pacific Northwest, the new EP is a cross-country journey through the matters of the heart.
