How it Works: Participants will register for this class here. Class size will be limited so register early! Once your spot is confirmed you will email photos of your pet to kristina@monadnockart.com
Note: there is still time to sign up! Please send your photos right away so I have time to prep your canvas.
Kristina will prep each participant's canvas with an outline drawing of your pet (see photos) giving you a head start at the event. Only one pet per portrait please.
Step One: Send us a Photograph Please send a close-up photo of your pet (preferably head and neck only). Your painting will only be as good as the photo you are working from so be sure to read the photography tips below and send us a clear, well lit, close-up photo of your pet. When in doubt, send a few photos to choose from.
Send photos to: kristina@monadnockart.com
Step Two: Make sure to bring your photograph/s to the event! You may bring your photos on your smartphone or a printed copy. This is what you will be working from.
Tips for Photographing your Pets: If you do not have good current photographs, take more! The beauty of digital cameras or smartphones is you can easily take a bunch of pictures.
Take the photo at eye level: crouch down to get at their level.
Take the photo in good light (can't stress this enough). Outside is ideal.
Avoid using the flash. It produces red eye and bleaches out the colors of the fur.
Most photos look good when your pet is alert with the ears pricked forward. Let their personality show!
If you are painting a pet that has passed away we will work with what photos you have. Send as many as you can.
At the Event: Kristina will provide tips and instructions on pet portraiture as well as be available for individual help. The class will take between 2 to 3 hours. Remember, these portraits will be painting in a whimsical, simple style (please don't expect to create a photo realistic portrait) which will make it easy to finish in the allotted time and will let your pets personality show! Remember to bring your photos to the class.
