Universal Design Accessibility Course
As a life-long wheelchair rider, Erick Mikiten, AIA will present a wide range of information on his personal experiences of accessibility over the years before and after the ADA, and present the social history that brought us to the codes we have today. He will step through various specific ADA and CBC code issues that architects should pay particular attention to, and suggest ways to incorporate them into your work. Case studies of buildings done by his firm and others will provide specific examples of ways in which we can all reach beyond the code minimums to integrate Universal Design into beautiful architecture.
Attendees taking any of the scheduled courses will receive a total of 5 ADA credits to meet their licensing requirement. AIA members will receive 5 Health Safety Welfare (HSW).
TIME: Door opens at 8:30 am, class begins at 9 am and runs until approximately 2:30 pm
COST: AIA Members, $100 (+svc fee) Non-members $150 (+svc fee)
Beverages and continental breakfast or snack will be served. Seminars will break for a half-hour lunch/snack. Attendees may bring a brown-bag lunch and stay on-site, or leave and return.
