26 BATS!
26 BATS! is composed of the members of music collective, Kriyative Emblems of a Blue Soul Renaissance. With their multi-genre influences including hip hop, jazz, soul, and alternative rock, 26 BATS! creates music with no intention of boundaries of a genre. These jazz and blues trained musicians challenge their sound with their desire for sonic exploration. By sneaking mantras in their lyrics and using themes of overcoming hate, this twin cities based band has full intentions of empowering and healing through the embodiment of music.
TONY THE SCRIBE
tony the scribe is worried. Seldom second-guessing or hedging his bets, but worried all the same. The Minneapolis-bred rappers work is colored by a sense of impending consequencesbe they social decay or just a really bad hangover. There are no dead ends, no non-sequiturs. Spitting real philosophy in dorm rooms or dorm room philosophy on bad dates, tonys writing grapples with moral and practical dilemmas on scales large and small: city-wide protests and cramped house parties. And hes having trouble keeping it together.
tony is perpetually caught between worlds. Raised in south Minneapolis and coming of age under the second Bush, tony entered the Twin Cities vibrant independent rap scene while he was still in high school. He snuck out of his parents houses to paper the city with fliers for shows at First Avenue, hiding cheap vodka in his tire well and honing his delivery on late-night car rides home. After years spent studying local heroes like Doomtree and Guante, tony eventually joined forces with producer ICETEP, with whom he formed KILLSTREAK. The duos 2013 debut, Janus, is the writers version of a high-wire act, a visceral reaction to inarticulable problems. His most recent project, the solo EP mixed blood, is the inverse, the writers version of dark caverns and fragile ladder rungs. tony currently lives in Minneapolis, where he worries.
