Grey Matter

Program 1
New works for the Disklavier (7PM)

"Ghost Tones" by Mikronesia (aka Michael McDermott)
"The Philosopher's Touch" by Peter Price
plus an audience-interactive improvisational composition designed and performed by pianist Melinda Faylor and dancer Loren Groenendaal.

Program 2
Special guest Rob Haskins playing "My Wounded Head" (9PM)
($5 at the door if you can only attend this event.)

This piece was created for Haskins by the Singaporean composer Marc Chan. In "My Wounded Head 3," Chan takes all of the passion chorales from Bach's St. Matthew Passion and treats them as found objects. From these found objects, he made a long-form solo piano piece that can vary between 60 and 80 minutes in performance. As a performer/interpreter of the work, Haskins is interested in how the actual music Marc created seems to connect in so many poetic ways with the themes of the Passion: sacrifice, devotion, and redemption. Audience members will be invited to lounge on couches and pillows for the duration of this ambient, environmental piano piece; refreshments will be available.
