ALEXIS MAXIMILIANO REBMAN:
Maxi began studying at a young age in his mothers flamenco dance school in Mendoza, Argentina, winning numerous awards across South America where he performed extensively. At the age of 18, he moved to Madrid to continue his studies with masters such as Paco Romero and Domingo Ortega.
He toured with the companies of Clara Ramona, Jose Huertas, Paco Romero, Manuel Reyes and la Tati, before joining Aida Gomezs company in 2005. He danced with this company for six years, interpreting the soloist role of Zuñigo in her production of Carmen, performing in the Teatro Villamarta at the 2006 Festival de Jerez, Madrids Teatros del Canal, and numerous other international theaters from Japan to London.
He has shared the stage with such renowned artists as Rafael Amargo, Juan de Juan and Primitivo Danza. Since 2012, he has partnered celebrated dancer Inmaculada Ortega in Las Tablas, the Teatro de Miraflores and Casa Patas. He is a member of her company, Aroma Flamenco which performs regularly across Spain. Currently, Maxi dances in numerous tablaos in Madrid, including Candela, Torres Bermejas and Café de Chinitas.
He divides his time between the stage and the classroom, and he served as co-director, choreographer and principal teacher at Madrids Arabesques Escuela de Danza from 2011-2016.
JENNIFER BENAVIDES:
Cuban-American, Jennifer began her dance training at a young age, studying classical ballet at the Baltimore School for the Arts. In 2000 she relocated to Madrid where she continued her flamenco studies in Amor de Dios with such masters as Maria Magdalena, Antonio Reyes and Inmaculada Ortega. In 2004 she became an apprentice in Inmaculadas company Aroma Flamenco, becoming a full-fledged member in 2006.
She began to dance in the Madrid tablao scene in 2005, in the emblematic Torres Bermejas where she continues to perform today. She also dances in numerous other tablaos in Madrid including El Cortijo, El Café de Chinitas and El Juglar. In 2008 she danced with Joaquin Ruizs company in Barcelonas Palau de la Música. She has also performed alongside Charo Espino and Angel Muñoz with Carlotta Santanas New York-based company Flamenco Vivo. From 2012-2014 she performed a soloist role in Inmaculada Ortegas production Me Olvidé de TiAlzheimer which was presented in numerous theaters across the community of Madrid.
Jennifer shares her time on stage and in the classroom, and since 2006 she has travelled five times to Japans prestigious Spainkikaku flamenco academies in Osaka, Kyoto and Fukuoka. She currently teaches private classes in Madrid.
LA CONJA:
La Conja, is one of the Flamenco Worlds most versatile artists. She has developed a substantial international reputation as a dancer, singer, and choreographer. Her masterful syntheses of modern Flamenco, Arab and Indian influences, illustrates the progressive direction of her art form; and creates a unique visual experience for her audience. She has performed at many prestigious venues such as: Guggenheim Work and Process Series, The Joyce Theater, Dance Theater Workshop and the Lincoln Center, The Teatro Albeniz in Madrid, Spain, Dancing into the 21 Century for Global India a Kathak &; Flamenco Fusion at American Museum of Natural History. And a collaboration piece Solo In Time at The Joyce Theater with Savion Glover. Charles Jurrist of the New York Daily News described her as a mesmerizing singer and demon dancer, and indeed, her dancing illustates a show of force which is Flamencos essence.
ZORONGO FLAMENCO DANCE THEATRE:
The mission of Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre and School is to enrich our community by drawing people close to the beauty and energy of the flamenco tradition and, by expanding on that tradition, create an innovative art form that explores the issues of contemporary life.
Susana di Palma founded Zorongo Flamenco Dance Theatre in 1982. One of the few American Spanish dance companies that present both traditional flamenco programs as well as original theater flamenco works; the company is comprised of an ensemble of international artists, dancers and musicians who are renowned for bringing the power, passion and virtuosity of the art of flamenco to American audiences.
