Experience Architecture - Tour d' Architecture Bike Tour

Join this refreshing Fall bicycle ride through Midtown Sacramento and beyond! The ride is nine miles in length, on flat and shady public streets. Participants will be rewarded with sneak peeks, designer commentary and refreshments at several key stops.
Ride starts at the AIA Central Valley office at 14th and S Street, and ends just across the river in West Sacramento. Easy directions to return will be provided. Please come prepared with your bicycle, helmet, water and sunscreen. A signed liability form is required to participate.
There are twelve stops in all. Among the highlights:
Architectural Nexus Office renovation A Living Building Challenge project seeking net zero energy and many more cutting edge environmental features.
Ice Blocks, 16th & R After a disastrous fire last year, this project has been reborn as new construction. Hear from the design team about the project goals, and see progress on the other component blocks as they near completion.
Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op After years of planning this expansive new store is finally open. Get a sneak peek into the new facility, along with some naturally healthy refreshments.
The Creamery Housing project This large scale housing community in Alkali Flat is well under way, with four model homes and brisk sales.
The Barn We end our tour at this new dramatic event center in West Sacramento near Raley Field and the Park Moderns. Enjoy refreshments while you check out the dramatic structure and riverfront locale.
About the Guides | Peter Saucerman, AIA & Robert Chase, AIA
Peter Saucerman, AIA Peter was senior partner in charge of Planning and Business Development for Dreyfuss + Blackford Architecture. He spent his career developing facility master plans for municipalities, universities, state and private sector companies throughout California. In retirement, Peter enjoys traveling and riding his bike.
Robert Chase, AIA A leader in the architectural community, Bob was the first architect to serve as the City of Sacramento's Chief Building Official, served as the chief building official for the City of Stockton and most recently as California's Deputy State Architect. Prior to public service, he was a partner at LPA/Sacramento Architects, managing principal at Nadel Architects, and the director of design at Leidenfrost Horowitz and Associates in Los Angeles. Bob lives in midtown and enjoys spending time with his wife Diane and his dog at their boat in Alameda.

Experience Architecture is a public-outreach event designed to facilitate greater transparency with the public in how architects create our built environment and how it impacts their daily lives; to create an ongoing dialogue to inform a distinct, regional, architectural identity; and to highlight existing relationships between the region and its architecture. The 2016 event is scheduled from October 20th to October 23rd.
