Peter Mulvey has pursued a restless, eclectic path as a writer and musician, immersing himself in Tin Pan Alley, modern acoustic music, poetry, literature, and Americana stylings. Whatever music he's making, his total engagement in the moment is intoxicating for live audiences. He has shared the stage with Emmylou Harris, Richard Thompson, Ani DiFranco, Indigo Girls, and Greg Brown, and has attracted an audience that stretches from Anchorage to Amsterdam. Mulvey holds his audience's attention with wit, humor, melody and provocative concepts. Night after night, he makes a fresh, unique experience from everything he and the audience have brought to the room that night. "To come together in a room, to try to make music come alive, for real, for right now, and then to let it go . . . that is the whole deal for me."
For decades, David Greenberger has collected stories from elderly people. Rather than portraying them as repositories of wisdom and memory, Greenberger illuminates their full and present humanity. David's monologues are entwined with live music in a show that is emotionally rich, charming, funny and evocative. Greenberger is a regular commentator on NPR. David will be accompanied by this evening by multi-instrumentalist Dinty Child, known to Caffe audiences as a member of Session Americana.
