The J.E. Sunde Group + The Soil & The Sun
J.E. Sunde is the solo project of Jonathan Sunde. Before striking out on his own, Jon spent years making beautifully unusual music with The Daredevil Christopher Wright. In July, 2014 he released his first solo album, Shapes That Kiss The Lips Of God, with Cartouche Records out of Davenport, IA. With a love for the craft of the singer/songwriter and an admiration for artists such as Nina Simone and Leonard Cohen, he tries to write honest songs that feel good and hopefully arent excessively derivative. In this endeavor he has, at times, been more and less successful. If you are wondering whether to attend his show, curious as to what you can expect, think quiet singer/songwriter folk music with a lot of words that get vaguely to blatantly philosophical at times. Then, take a chance. You may not regret it.
The Soil and the Sun are, of course, great partners in the mystery that is creating life, making things grow. Out of Grand Rapids, MI, Alex, Ashley, Benjamin, and Kellen make music in the delicate balance between simplicity and complexity. Through soaring vocal melodies, ethereal synth textures, driving guitars, and pulsing electro-organic rhythms, these four friends explore the human condition and reach for greater meaning.
