July 2016 Lunch and Learn: Domestic Violence in Colorado
The United States is plagued by an alarmingly high incidence of domestic violence. According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men in the U.S. have experienced some form of domestic violence.
In 2014 in Colorado alone, 16,700 people reported one or more domestic violence crimes, and 25 people were killed by their current or former partner.
On June 28, the Alliance Center community experienced a tragic occurrence of domestic violence here in our building, when we lost a member of our Alliance Center family, Cara Russell.
This is an important issue, and one with particular relevance given recent events. To educate ourselves and our community, we will be joined by Margaret Abrams of the brand new Rose Andom Center, by a member of the Denver Police Department, and by a representative of Safehouse Denver.
Lunch (free!) and beverage service provided by Serendipity Catering and Serendipity Coffee Bar.
