Architecture Matters: Design Guidelines
Codes have a long history of shaping the built landscape, going all the way back to the Greeks and beyond. We accept their existence and for the most part, work within their limits. But when the word design is added to their title, the ego antennae of architects start to wiggle . . . alot. We do not like some "document" intruding onto the gorgeously expressive, soft lead diagram of our latest creation. Can we find examples of design guidelines that span the range of successful results to less than stellar outcomes? Our open forum discussion is intended to explore these questions and others in our continuing Architecture Matters series.
